It’s July. It’s Wisconsin, and there are race cars on the track. That means one thing: We’re at Road America for the WeatherTech International Challenge with Brian Redman.
Definitely. What a good way to begin the weekend.
After a test day Thursday, we’ll have a weekend of superb vintage racing. The field: some 400 entries in 12 groups, ranging from prewar sports cars to modern GT, open-wheelers and prototypes.
To come: qualifying Friday, with the evening race car parade and coucours on Lake Street in Elkhart Lake, qualifying races on Saturday, and feature races on Sunday, including an AAR Eagle demonstration session, and a TABS/B Sedan feature race. Check back for more photos.
Of special note this year: a remarkable collection of Dan Gurney’s AAR Eagles, as the Gurney Eagles serve as the weekend’s featured marque.
Included in the 29 AAR cars on display, Gurney’s 1967 Eagle Gurney Westlake Mk 1 F1 car, in which he won the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix, and the 1974 Jorgensen Eagle, in which Bobby Unser won the 1975 Indianapolis 500.
About half the AAR Eagles will participate in on-track demonstrations.
