Not just any Sunbeam Alpine but one of three cars prepared for the factory for its 1962 assault on Le Mans.
This particular car, 9201 RW, was kept as a reserve entry, though, and didn’t take the green–until the following year where Peter Harper and Peter Procter, sadly, retired after 13 hours with a blown head gasket.
Since its competition heyday, the Alpine’s history hasn’t been forgotten:
During the tenure of its previous owner, from 1988 to 2015, 9201 RW received an extensive yet very careful restoration to then enjoy a second racing career, retaining its original 'Works' colours, registration number and 1963 Le Mans specification, albeit with a milder compression ratio to increase reliability.
Find this 1962 Alpine Sunbeam Works Le Mans car up for auction at Iconic Auctioneers.
