Recap: 2023 Classic Motorsports Smoky Mountain Tour Day 2

Photography by Chris Tropea

Wish you had the chance to drive your classic car the way you’ve always wished you could through Carolinas’ finest mountain switchbacks? That’s the whole idea behind our Classic Motorsports Smoky Mountain Tour, part of the Hagerty Touring Series.

Yesterday marked day 2 of the road tour and saw our participants starting off by visiting Chimney Rock State Park, the site of numerous hillclimbs from the 1950s through the 1990s.

Once we snapped a group photo at Chimney Rock, it was off to the Lake Lure Marina for a boat ride on Lake Lure followed by lunch at The 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa.

After lunch, tour participants headed to North Carolina’s largest luxury car storage facility and auto club, the Prescott Auto Reserve, for an exclusive tour.

To finish off day 2, our group headed back to the host hotel, the Renaissance Asheville Downtown, to freshen up before dinner at Pack’s Tavern, located just a stone’s throw away from the hotel.

Stay tuned this week for more updates from this year’s Smoky Mountain Tour, and visit classicmotorsportsroadtours.com to stay up to date on future road tours.

My wife Denise and I did this tour in her 1990 Miata a few years ago and we couldn't have enjoyed the time more. The daily tours, restaurants and hotels were excellant. The roads were beyond terrific. We had the greatest time!

This was our first tour of this type and honestly, we didn't know what to expect. When it was all said and done, the experiance couldn't have been better. In fact, we were so impressed we've signed up for the Kentucky Bluegrass Tour this Fall.

Can't wait 'til this Fall,

Dave & Denise Patten
