The Quail, a Motorosports Gathering, again managed to present many of Monterey's greatest hits. And, don’t forget, tickets include first-class food and drink from around the world.
Walk, eat, nosh, repeat.
This show has also become a corporate event of sorts, meaning displays once reserved for the major international auto shows.
Each year, yhe Quail features different curated displays. Our favorite was the 50 years of BMW M brand. Benjamin Clymer’s 1980 M1 took top prize in this category.
All Things Mini featured a variety of Mini variations and made for a fun display.
The final of three special groups was the 70 years of Jaguar and their win at LeMans. C-Types, D-Types and lightweight E Types dazzled guest of the show.
From the new car standpoint, Lincoln’s shocking design study certainly stood out, and the new Ruf Bergsteiger was awfully cool.
More from the official release:
Competing against an elite field of over 200 entrants, the stunning 1956 Jaguar D-Type was awarded “Best of Show” at this year’s The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. The winner of the paramount award was announced during the annual gathering of automotive enthusiasts, industry principals, celebrities and motorsports greats on the beautiful grounds of Quail Lodge & Golf Club. The winning vehicle was inducted into the Rolex Circle of Champions alongside the event’s individual class winners.
Owned by William Pope, the 1956 Jaguar D-Type, was selected for the highest honor due to its superb construction, design, attention to detail, workmanship and extensive restoration process. Jaguar took victory at Le Mans three years-in-a-row from 1955 - 1957 with the D-Type and it is rumored that only 75 examples were built.
