Now that our project Lotus Elan’s body was painted, it was time to bolt it to the frame. That said, you have a bit of a catch 22, as you need to attach the doors before you can finalize the body alignment. In fact in hindsight, we probably should have bolted the body to the frame before paint to better adjust the door gaps.
While we got the gaps perfect without the body on the chassis, bolting the car down was somewhat of a game changer. Thankfully, we were able to shim the body to once again get the door gaps pretty much perfect.
Had we bolted the body down earlier, we would have had to forgo painting the chassis until the bodywork was done to keep from ruining the gorgeous paint job we did on our chassis.
There are about 12 points for a Lotus Elan body to attach to the chassis. Two are at the very front, while two are at the very rear. In between there are two at the front shock towers, two on the transmission tunnel, two at the seat belt bolt anchors and two more along the frame, inside the cockpit.
