Beginning Reassembly

Where do you start? Bringing a car back from the paint shop is exciting, though intimidating. There’s a rational order in which to proceed when reassembling a project car. Leaving off the doors, deck lid, and hood until the end makes reassembling a car much easier.

While we usually like to clean up and stick a piece or two of chrome back on a freshly painted car in order to see the contrast, the logical starting point was to reassemble the interior.

There’s a sensible order here, too. Before you can do much else, you need to install your headliner and rear package shelf, as the windshield and rear window seals fit over them.

From here, we worked inward, rebuilding the door edge moldings, then moving toward the dash and flooring. We painted the floors with POR-15 and found a gray paint very close to the original for the vertical surfaces by the front and rear seats.
