What a great story. I hope that you get to enjoy it for a very long time to come.
My very first car was also a Triumph Spitfire, a 1972 MKIV model that I bought in 1979. Of course at that time the Spitfire was just another used car rather than a classic. I had a lot of fun with that Spitfire will always have fond memories of it.
Great story Tom. Very similar to mine, but my first car was a '62 Sprite my father traded a lawnmower and $50 for it. It ran, barely. But, I had wheels and we fixed it up and I drove it to school in winter. No top. A cigarette lighter put out more heat that the "heater". We sold it and I moved to a green'72 Spitfire Mk. IV. Great little car. After that in 1974, it was on to the '72 TR-6 that I still own. Hugo tried to eat it but we tore it down and restored it. Currently it is on its' 3rd engine and trans. It will go to my daughter one day.
Anyway, awesome story. Brought back a lot of memories for me.
Well done! I love a good car story like that! Some people may wonder what you see in a that little car, but your friends here get it!
