How to (inadvertently) make your own car event

Photography by David S. Wallens

Lamenting the fact that there isn’t a car event on your upcoming schedule? Make your own.

How’s that? Get the car out of the garage and drive it–even if it’s just to a non-car event.

Case in point: This past weekend–early Sunday morning–we attended a non-car photo shoot an hour and a half away. The night before, we decided to drive there in our Porsche 911 Carrera.

Why the Porsche? Because it’s a Porsche.

Yes, the car got a little dirty. A few bugs probably got smushed on it. We added some miles to the odometer.

Instead of a rather uneventful three hours on the highway that day, however, we got to spend a rather uneventful three hours on the highway listening to that iconic flat-six while looking over those classic VDO gauges. (Radio? Not today.)

Upon arrival at the shoot, though, something unexpected happened–and something that really turned our Sunday drive into its own event. One of the other photographers asked to include the Porsche in the day’s shoot.

Um, sure.

So after a morning of making photos with models standing in tall grass working with the flow of the wind–find some of our images here–as directed we parked the car along the park’s tree-lined entrance for the secondary shoot with the moment’s true stars, standout talent Zurii and Hathim.

Makes you wonder how often those photographers hgetad the chance to work with a classic car.

One of the models referred to the Porsche as vintage. That made me feel old.

So, soon we’ll have a PS of sorts to this as the car was again used for a model shoot.

You'll need to log in to post.
