For the first time ever, there’s a Ford Mustang GT3. It will make its race debut in the GTD class during the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Veteran driver Joey Hand, one of the pilots of the Ford Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang in IMSA, shared with us what makes this car special.

From what i read it was extremely fast in class? What will BoP do to the car?

Make it equal-ish.

I am curious why they chose to mount the rear wing supports the way they did (Coming out of the rear window). Why not out of the decklid like pretty much every other car that has a wing?

To Msterbee:

Cause if they get punted, the impact won't take out the wing....(My best guess)

My bet is they are placing the down force more centered over the rear axle. Possibly reducing the suspension compressions effect on the wing. That mounting point will move less than the far back of the cars deck lid.

It is akin to the games nascar teams played with soft suspensions at super speedways that dropped the rear of the deck lid (and the spoiler) out of the air greatly reducing drag.  This however can make for unpredictable aero effects on the car especially at low speed due that movement changing the angle of attack of a wing.

In reply to Msterbee :

I'd guess they wanted the top of the rear clear and wing supports as far away from the underside of the wing as possible.
