The choice to split to the rear window of the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray came from GM Vice President of Design Bill Mitchell, much to the chagrin of Corvette engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov.
Peter Brock, then part of the GM Design Studio, recounts the moment when Mitchel and Duntov got into a heated argument over the design choice.
Do you prefer the 1963 Corvette or the follow-up years?

I've had both. The split window looks somewhat better from outside the car, but it further reduces the driver's marginal view of what's behind him. More of a safety issue to me.
