Video: Why Do WRC Teams Swap Brands for Their Recce Cars?

https://www.youtube.com/embed/4BySx158Igw

In many rally events, including the World Rally Championship, teams are allowed "recce" or reconnaissance runs before the actual stages. These runs are often performed while roads are still open to the public, so flat-out speed is neither the point nor allowed. Instead, recce is used for rally co-drivers to create pace notes for drivers to follow through the stage.

However, you might wonder why some WRC recce cars aren't built by the companies associated with each team. This video from DirtFish has an answer for you.

We followed Pastrana on recce A couple years ago and he was just driving a rental Corolla (We were driving my crew chief's 4Runner). Sometimes I see the SRT guys in regular old Impreza and other times they are just in random rental cars. Most of the lower budget privateer teams just use their tow rigs for recce at US rallies.

It took a loong time for M-Sport to stop using the Volvos they had. Some of the modern ones are the new Subarus like SRT guys use now, Sean Johnson actually had Seb Ogiers old one for Recce at Turkey.
