Sure, Leonardo DiCaprio played a man stuck in an iron mask, but Takao Wada and Aguri Suzuki were men who willingly got into an iron mask.

No, not a literal mask, but an R30-chassis Nissan Skyline, also known as the “Iron Mask” (or “Tekkamen” in Japanese) because of the mask-like design of the front of the car.

Wada and Suzuki–yes, the future F1 driver and team owner–drove this Nissan Skyline RS Turbo to win the 1986 All Japan Touring Car Championship season, scoring several podium finishes.

Prepared to Japanese Group A rules, the RS Turbo–chassis 000069–is powered by a 300-horsepower FJ20ET turbocharged inline-four engine and weighs in at 1045 kilograms, or approximately 2300 pounds.

According to the seller, the car recently underwent a restoration that replaced or overhauled several components, including the brakes, gearbox, suspension, fuel system, fuel cell and ECU.

The engine is reported to have been rebuilt by a Nismo engineer in 2020, and the original livery was preserved as “the exterior bodywork was in superb order."

In July 2024, Takao Wada was reunited with the RS Turbo at a special event at Fuji Speedway, “turning joyful laps in his faithful steed, despite soggy conditions.”
