This Porsche 908 LH not only represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of Porsche race cars, it’s also quite unique. The automaker produced 31 coupe models for the 908. Of them, 18 were the long-tail (LH) version. Of those, only two had chassis constructed out of steel. This is one of those two.
Chassis No. 908-004 is one of the first to be entered into competition. Debuted at the 1968 Monza 1000km race, the Porsche was driven by Ludovico Scarfiotti (a winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans) and Gerhard Mitter (24 Hours of Daytona winner) to a third-place class finish in the event. A month later the 908 served as a test car at Spa for Vic Elford, a two-time class winner at Le Mans.
The seller says the Porsche remains “in a configuration close to its appearance during the 1968 Monza 1000km race” and retains “many of its original components.”
Find this 1968 Porsche 908 LH up for auction at The Six Racing Cars Auction, with an estimated winning bid of €2,000,000-€3,000,000 (approximately $2,181,400-$3,272,100).
