Why did the F1 Supremo, Bernie Ecclestone himself, once own this Porsche 962C? Probably for the same reason you want it. It’s a fantastic car with an interesting race history in Japan. Yes, Japan.
Trust Racing in Japan took delivery of the car new, and campaigned it in 1987 with Vern Schuppan (developer of the roadgoing Schuppan 962CR) and Keiichi Suzuki.
Besides Ecclestone, this 962 had other notable owners, including Bruce Canepa and Olympic sailor Lorne Leibel. Leibel frequently campaigned the Porsche in Monterey Historics before its current owner (which purchased the car in 2017) followed in his footsteps. The Porsche’s twin-turbocharged 3.2-liter flat six was overhauled in 2023 by Dawe’s Motorsports Development.
