This 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL certainly needs some work. It has sat in a garage since 1974, but for an enterprising individual, this might be an opportunity to score a rare classic.
What kind of condition is it in? According to the seller, “Yes, the sills have gone, but it’s solid down the centre and we were able to jack it up without any creaks or groans from the metalwork. All four wheels still rotate, so Bob [the owner] obviously knew what he was doing and was quite sensible in terms of how he parked his cars up. It comes with some delightful 1960s and 1970s spares, some in their original bags, and a handful of detailed scribblings, showing how he intended to restore it.”
This Mercedes-Benz represents just one of 562 right-hand-drive examples constructed. Bonhams said they expect it to sell between £25,000-£45,000 (approximately $30,000-$55,000 USD).

First of all... this car is way out of my wheelhouse $ wise. It looks to be one of those rare models (esp) RHD that MUST be restored by the big guys. An amateur restore will only be good for someone who is doing it for themselves and have a moderate amount of cash. No one at the high end will want anything but perfection!! Is this a $150-200K restoration? I don't know the values for the restoration of these MB cars. Just curious!!

According to Hagerty, a 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL in #4 condition is $68,300 - that's just a tick above of what Bonhams expects this to sell for on the high end.
#3 - $83,900.
#2 - $138,000.
#1 - $263,000.
Whether it's worth it all depends on how much you love the car and what kind of profit you're looking to make. In general, values for this car are down about 8% this year, but up over the course of the last three years about 20%, depending on condition.

I drove my "new" AMG to show my brother back in 2000 or so and the neighbor wandered over and asked if we would be interested in an old Mercedes he had. We walked across the street and he had a very nice 190sl that he wanted $8k for. I was not able; just finished fixing a 3000gt vr4 and had bought my 5.6SEL AMG and it was kind of an old guy car. Oh well, can't get them all.
