Following the success of the 904 would be no easy task. Perhaps that’s why Ferdinand Piëch, the then 28-year-old grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, was put in charge of developing a replacement.
The result? The 906.
In place of the former’s steel construction, the 906 made use of a fiberglass body built over a steel space-frame chassis. Likewise, the 906 was fitted with a lighter 2.0-liter engine featuring magnesium castings and Weber carbs.
In total, only about 50 were ever made.
As for this particular 906, it’s regarded as one of the most original examples available, retaining its original chassis number, chassis tag and transaxle. The owner of the car also states that much of the fiberglass is original as well.
The Porsche also comes with a well-documented history of both previous owners and motorsport participation.
