If you think this looks a lot like a 911 Carrera made to look like a 930 Turbo, you’d be correct–well, sort of.
Following the end of 930 sales in the U.S. in the wake of tightening emission regulations in the late 1970s, Ruf took it upon themselves to fill in the void left by the famed turbo Porsche.
While the car Ruf developed wasn’t turbocharged, it still retained the low, wide signature look of the 930.
Ruf didn’t just stop at its appearance, however, as the car’s 3.2-liter flat-six was upgraded to produce some 240 horsepower–more than the stock 911 of the time and not too far from the Turbo’s 265 horsepower.
In total, fewer than 10 examples were known to have been produced, with this one believed to be one of just three delivered to Canada. (A revised 930 Turbo, introduced in the mid-1980s, would put an end to production of the Ruf 911 Carrera 3.2.)
In addition to an extensive history file, the Ruf is accompanied by a service book, owner’s manuals, tool roll and spare wheel.
Find this 1985 RUF 911 Carrera 3.2 up for auction from RM Sotheby’s, with an estimated value of $375,000-$425,000.
