This is a car with some serious credentials. Niki Lauda raced this Mercedes-Benz 190 E during the same year he won his third and final Formula 1 championship.
A total of 21 examples of this special edition Mercedes-Benz were prepared for the 1984 Nürburgring Race of Champions. Lauda finished second to then-F1-rookie Ayrton Senna.
It’s the “only privately-owned example to remain in its original ‘as raced’ configuration.” With the exception of Lauda’s and Senna’s cars, the rest of the race-prepped cars were converted back to their original specs for the street. Senna’s car resides in the Mercedes-Benz Museum.
Find this 1984 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.3-16 “Nürburgring” up for auction at RM Sotheby’s, with an estimated winning bid of $450,000-$550,000.
