One of the rarest Porsche 911 examples: The Vesuvio Edition

Photography Courtesy Bonhams | Cars

How many examples of the Porsche 911 left the factory in the color Vesuvio? Just 60 in 1997. This is one of those Vesuvio editions, intended to celebrate Porsche's 50th anniversary as an automaker.

This Vesuvio Edition is essentially a Carrera 2S with a Turbo widebody, and came from Porsche with a lowered suspension and a sunroof delete. However, this 911 has a retrofitted Porsche/Bilstein Nürburgring Edition suspension package.

The 911 has just 64,194km (39,888 miles). Aside from the suspension, the seller states it remains totally factory-spec and unmodified.

Find this 1997 Porsche 911 (993) C2S Vesuvio Edition on Bonhams | Cars, with an estimated value of £100,000-£120,000 ($127,000-$152,000 USD).

For anyone who wants a literary treat, you really should read the "Vehicle Overview" found underneath the gallery.

Here's a snippet:

The vines that climb the slopes of Vesuvius carry the aroma, taste and colour memories of those planted by Roman viticulturalists centuries before the destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Their roots lie deep in the dark and porous lava soil, rich in minerals, ash, and lapilli.

And there you sit, at the foot of the volcano, warmed by the last rays of the Neapolitan sun on a late summer’s afternoon.

You hold your glass of Vesuvio Lacryma Christi DOC up to the sky to see the light dancing across the Bay of Naples refracted in every molecule.

Those are the signature colours of this car, and they ebb and flow ceaselessly with the time of day, the seasons and the weather.
