Home-brewed, fiberglass-bodied sports racers were prolific throughout the 1950s and 1960s, though many have been lost to history. This unique Sabel-Porsche Mk1 Prototype, however, has managed to survive.
Designed and built by John Sabel (hence the Porsche-Sabel name), the Mk1 combines a VW floorplan with the suspension, engine and transmission from a Porsche 356.
In total, only about 30 were ever made, with this one being the very first example produced. A year after construction was finished, the car would go on to make its competition debut at the 1964 Hershey Hill Climb.
