This BMW 3.0 CSL carries those iconic BMW Motorsport stripes well, doesn’t it? Maybe that’s because this was the first car to be finished in that livery. However, there’s even more history to this BMW.

Three-time F1 champion Niki Lauda tested the BMW at Silverstone. He compared the 3.0 CSL to his Formula 2 car at the time in the April 1972 issue of Motor Sport.

John Fitzpatrick, who is a three-time Le Mans class winner, drove this BMW to a podium finish in the 1972 European Touring Car Championship. The next year, the BMW moved to America, where it was updated with the Batmobile kit.

Find this 1971 BMW 3.0 CSL “Batmobile” for auction at RM Sotheby’s, with an estimated value of $500,000-$650,000.
