Front-engined Grand Prix cars? Rare. Examples of the Ferrari Tipo 555 “Super Squalo?” Even rarer, as just two are believed to still exist. This one was driven by not one, but two F1 champs: Mike Hawthorn and Giuseppe “Nino” Farina, among other noteworthy drivers.

The Super Squalo competed in four World Championship-qualifying Grand Prix races in 1955. Its best finish? A fourth at the Belgian Grand Prix with Belgian Paul Frère behind the wheel. Frère would later go on to have success at Le Mans, winning overall in 1960 with Olivier Gendebien.

After its Grand Prix days, the Ferrari experienced success in the 3.5-litre Formule Libre form in Australia and New Zealand. Peter Whitehead, winner at Le Mans in 1951, scored a win in his first race with it, and two more soon after. Businessman Tom Clark then campaigned it with a victory in his first try. Later on, Garth Souness put a modified Morris Minor body on the chassis and installed a Chevy V8, after which it became known as the Morrari in New Zealand.

Around the early 1970s, there were efforts to start returning the car its former glory. It was eventually restored to its original Formula 1 2.5-liter engine specs and body form. The Ferrari made its first significant reappearance in the Monaco Historic Grand Prix in 1997. Then it has gone to be presented at events such as the Goodwood Revival Meeting, Techno Classica and Chantilly Arts & Elegance.
