2022 is looking wild for mid-engine cars at the Challenge. Some might limp to competition this year, but most will need another year of refinement.
- nocones' LMP 360
- Gumby's X71 Bradley GT with front-mid V8 (I think it counts)
- Robbie's F-Dat Datsun roadster
- The Free Lotus Europa
- Wreck Racing's J35 mid-engined Chevy S10
- AAZD's Fiero camera car
- JohnnyTwinTurbo's ex-SCCA IT Fiero
- Andy's MR2 cart?
Any others I'm forgetting?

I feel Attacked by your accurate assessment of my attendence this year.
Facts:
People are attracted to Mid engined cars. They put posters on their wall of them.
When YouTuberz strike Viral gold they buy Mid Engined Lambos.
LMP1/2/3 cars are Mid Engined and amazing
F1 cars are Mid Engined and amazing
Indycars are Mid Engined and amazing
Offshore powerboats are Mid Engined and amazing
Monster Trucks are Mid Engined and are BERKELEYING MONSTER TRUCKS.
Be like a monster truck. Come to the 2022 challenge with a Mid.
MrJoshua should have an MR2 (or 2) bouncing around somewhere. I think he's also probably now got a stash of 2zz's from his son.
Haven't heard from Mr Roy (forget his username at the moment) lately but his kids built the sweet v6 gen 2 mr2 that should still be around.
Wheelsmithy has an x1/9 with turbo PT power in the works.
Can someone like AAACD get a boxster in budget (how about the rolled one - dan0)?
Maybe the mid engine mini could come back?
I think we'd have just about every version of every 'even-kinda-sorta-possibly-budget-eligible' factory mid-engined car.
oh duh, the angrymachine, if he can get it done.

Travis is just a realist while Robbie is an optimist.
In reply to AngryCorvair (Forum Supporter) :
Is that Christmas of 2022 or 2032?
In reply to nocones :
Actually, forget the autocross, let's all just build monster trucks and have a car-crushing competition at the challenge!
In reply to slowbird :
Isn't that what Stampie is essentially doing with his Buick? (sorry for giving away your strategy)
I'm planning to be there with the Morris Minor with the front/mid V8.
Buncha savages in this town!

Is Stampie actually bringing something? Or is the radiator going to convienently explode again?
In reply to bobzilla :
That's a one time use excuse. I'll have to come up with a new one.
How bout my rx7 with a 3.5 liter v6? The engine is behind the front axle. Does that count?
Since it is a champcar, I couldn't run it in the regular class anyway....
The Mr2 Spyder Kart will be there again. I've got a $200 2zz sitting on an engine stand in the garage but I won't be able to get it swapped this year.

If this counts I'm bringing riggamort a year too early!

I figure a few of those cars listed have at least part of the engine behind the rear wheel centerline, so if those count as mid engine, so should a front engine behind the front wheel centerline.
Lolz.
The Zoomboni engine is mounted waaaaay back in the chassis. More than a foot from the front of the motor to the front axle line and a driveshaft only 2" long. It'll be in exhibition class this year (stupid closed loopholes).
Next year I "hope" to have the Fiero done. 1987 GT with a 3800SC motor.

Yeah, that's a front/mid. That's how my Morris is set up.
I'm all about $200 2ZZ engines if anyone knows of others.

The history/health of the engine is completely unknown and the car works so well with the current 1zz, I'm having trouble motivating to do the swap.
I've always thought front-mid meant the engine is entirely behind the centerline of the front wheels. Otherwise basically every front engine car could be construed as mid-engined. But that's just like, my opinion man.

Do we know of any cars where the engine is more than half in front of the front wheel centerline?
In reply to Robbie (Forum Supporter) :
Subarus probably

Probably the majority of transverse mount platforms have more than 50% of the engine ahead of the front wheel centerline too.
