In reply to B13Birk :
I thought it looked really good for the money, especially here in the rust belt.
I do want an X1/9. I don’t know what I’d do with one though.
My wife says the plastic bumpers make it look like a pouty face.
In reply to BlueInGreen - Jon :
The bumpers can be removed. I like these cars with them gone, even the early non-crash bumper ones.
$1000 for a running, driving anything seems to be a good deal, never mind a really clean looking x1/9 with 23 in focus, clear, daylit pictures.
What’s the catch?
That’s what I’m thinking. How in the world is something that looks that clean a $1000 car? It must be rusting underneath or something, right?
Go buy it now. That's a heckuva deal. Later model like that aren't as desireable (bumpers mostly) but as a driver get after it. I have a Miata I'll trade to anyone who buys this.
Heck, I might have to make a call tomorrow.

Those are some of the best pictures I've ever seen on the list of Craig's, especially for a $1000 car.

I agree. Put it in the too good to be true category. At that price and that condition it should have sold the first day.
Area code is in Mass. Car in Michigan.
Wonder if that same ad has shown up on other Craigslist listings. There is a $5,000 restored early GT6 that is a scam that keeps showing up in various city Craigslist pages. Hope this is real for you, that is a really nice X1/9 if it is true
Sheesh, if that IS real I'm glad it's so far away- that looks REALLY damn good, and I've always like those little cars.
Guy on xweb seems to have found that there is an incorrect asking price listed on CL.
That would explain a lot,but I don't know why it wouldn't be fixed. Guy is probably not getting a ton of calls on an x1/9 either way.

They are pretty rare, but there are some folks making repops of the early style bumperettes.
That said, the "Mittlestead" mod for the later dual rail bumpers is a great solution too:

Looks exactly like my old '74, right down to the black Revolutions!
Yes, either a scam or misprint. No way would anyone sell that for $1,000. More like $10,000 I would think. Good X's are rising rapidly.
