Could you tell me what decent 3/4 ton ext cab 4x4 trucks are like in your areas?

What will $1500-$3K buy me?

Not much in the Southeast.

This is truck country, and they therefore carry a premium.

You can definitely find a good one here. No rust. They ALL look pretty good (except 70's vintage farm truck that have been exposed to fertilizer and farm chemicals).

But an extended 3/4 ton 4x4 is a desirable truck.

You're gonna pay $3K for a clean mid 80's vintage truck. Or $3K will buy you a mid 90's truck for the same price that runs well, but will be pretty beat up. Or, $3K will buy you a nice looking mid 90's truck that doesn't run.

Really.

Now if you were looking for 70s and 80s Japanese something, we've got those.

When I had my '82 Civic 2 years ago, a couple driving through from up north told me they hadn't seen one of those in 20 years.

Sorry to get off topic.

You anywhere near Knoxville, TN? I've got an 88 F-250 ext cab 4x4 that I would take $1300 for. Doors are beat up and has some rust in rocker panels (have good doors that would go with it). 460 efi C6 4.10 gears. or a 90 F-250 ext cab 4x4 7.3 diesel 5 speed 3.55 posi with no rust, no major dents but in need of an alternator and battery cables. I've got the parts but live 500 miles from it now. $2200 with aluminum rims that are on it or $2000 with something else. Both are XLT Lariat package with PW/PL buckets seats, etc both are the heavy duty model with Dana 50 front end and the big lockoutsI've owned the 88 for 8 years and the 90 for 17 years

Look in TX. I saved over $7000 when I bought my 2001 F350 dually from Houston instead of in Tampa. Flew out and drove it home in less than 24 hours. They have car lots with nothing but trucks on them. Just make sure you don't buy anything from Galveston...

why Galveston?

Basically, what I'm looking for is a reliable, mostly rustless, F150-250 style truck with seating for 5 and 4wd.

Two words: Hurricane Ike

Just be careful of flooded cars. I bought my truck from ebay and from a reputable seller. 40+ pictures, etc. and walked with a good deal. Just make sure you ask all the right questions, get an owner history report and a lot of pictures.
