I'd LOVE to have one of those Capris, almost as much as I'd love to have an Escort. 2.3 Turbo? Bah. 2.3 Duratec. MUCH lighter engine, and make silly power nonturbo. There's my rallycross dream car. (well, RWD rallycross dream car. Actual rallycross dream car is some early 80s FWD E36 M3box with excessive mid-engined AWD power, because putting more than 200hp down through two wheels is difficult. We're still working on the details for that one.)

My mid engine,R1 powered, awd geo metro sounds like what you need.Oh and its for sale,a guy is been stringing me along for a month but no cash in hand.$2000 dollars for everything-deal of the yr for sure.

Metros are way too new. Need something over 25 years old to make it easier to register.

R1 engine? Like bike engine? I guess for drag use they can make 500hp for a few seconds at a time but I want something I can lean on for two minutes, five or six times per hour long heat, then drive three or four hours back home.

Yeah, picky picky That's why the idea's on the back burner.

I agree. Having owned multiple 73-76 Capri's I would say this one is way over priced. These cars have an extremely small cult following. The national meet brings out only a few cars. What that means is that if you find one chances are you will be about the only guy interested in it. The downside of that small interest group is that there arent many of these cars out there.

I would have a hard time paying more than $300 for the Capri in the original post of this thread. There aren't a lot of these around but a tired rolling shell just isn't worth much, making a search for a better one worth the effort.

They are pretty tough,I run 30 races a season with 0 engine/transmission troubles. They can make 300hp and run like that for a LONG time, check out the RX1 turbo sleds as well. You can look up kevlarcorolla for youtube vids if you like.

Building what you describe with the ability to drive it 6-8 hours each event is a pipe dream, they make trailers for a reason.

Damn I need to finish my '72. It's a beautiful car, and not a million miles from finished. I got distracted and built my Celica.
