Is this a small inline six?
it is the M30 yes its a six
it has the 3.0 and weighs in at 3800lbs the 5 weighs in at 3500lbs
It must be a model that fueleconomy.gov and wiki are unaware of then, because I don't see a 3L available on 1988, USDM 5-series.

Considering it's a 7-series, I'd say you are right .

I don't understand what this discussion is about. If it's a US model, it's a 3.4 with 208hp. I have been actively hunting for one that isn't green or gold and I have been having horrible luck.

AH... you said 1988 in the first post. that is where all the confusion started from.

730i is a non-US market m60 - v8 (unless it's some one-off BMW thing like 318ti club sports).
In reply to SCARR:
it is a 1988 and it is a 730 with a 3.0 in it with 5 spd end of story

I guess I should read more carefully.
The car must be a grey market import like my old E28 528i. Back in the 80's it was relatively cheap and easy to bring a car here from overseas, hence M-B's lobbying for the 25-year rule. Wouldn't be surprised if a 7er was much cheaper over there too.
The E32 730i was never officially sold in the US by BMW, and that is a fact, look it up, call your dealer, check the parts program, whatever. So, this car came from somewhere else...just wonder from where and when.

I would totally rock it though.
Currently asking my wife about it. Not optimistic, but I'd love this car.

Yes it is. It also explains the engine question people had. It was a replacement engine.

Wait...but the eBay ad says it's a 3.5L M60 (V8)...and cutter says it's a 3.0 M30 (I6)?
In reply to bastomatic:
yes its the car. i have a friend in washington state bringing two cars back for me and he has room for six cars so i was bidding on everything on his route that i liked he has to pick up a car in Detroit so he is grabbing this one for me also. i will have it in my possession on Sunday. hoping he has to make a stop in Idaho to pick up 3.0 csi but wont know till tomorrow night. i should read the ads better and talk to the owner not his wife
cutter, is your friend's name Paul Lyons?
