Well, the time has finally come to replace my Trooper's anemic 2.8 V6. So, does anyone have a 3.4 V6 (out of a Camaro or similar) that they're ready to part with?
Pickup anywhere on the east coast (preferably the southeast) isn't an issue, as us GRMers travel all over the place.
Bonus points if you can meet me at the Mitty, btw.
Really dude. Really.

Weren't you looking to stuff a LS1 in something?

Use the FWD LS motor, bolt pattern is the same....
Other than that, don't rule out the 3800 swap either, also same bolt pattern and the FWD motors are a dime a dozen. Add Camaro flywheel if you have a manual otherwise flex-plates aren't tough to modify. FWD motor timing cover/water pump/accessory drives are shorter as well, probably even shorter than your current 2.8L.
Or, I have a low mile Goodwrench service replacement 2.8L out of an '89 Trooper if you're willing to drive up for it.

There's a ton of them on car-part.com for cheap ($500 in Holly Hill, for example)...one of the perks of F-body engines, they're all over!

Oh, wow. I had no idea car-part.com worked that well! I'm going to pick up a 3.4 locally.
Oldopelguy- thanks for the offer, but my 2.8 still runs great. I'm just ready for another 40 horsepower and 40 ft-lbs of torque.

Fair warning, unless you're swapping over everything like the intake, exhaust, etc., don't expect "factory" horsepower ratings the 3.4 had. The 3.4 swap is pretty popular in the Fiero world (did it to mine while I was in college) and reusing the Fiero MPFI intake, exhaust, etc. is really restrictive and ends up with barely-better horsepower. The stock injectors and programming don't work that great with the 3.4 out of the box either, so it's really a bastardized deal and takes more attention to detail to get the most of your efforts. I'm not at all familiar with what the Isuzu uses for intake and exhaust, but I thought it was TBI. I'm sure this is documented on Isuzu forums or whatever, as it's very common to do just like with S10s. Just thought I'd chime in as somebody who has done the swap the "wrong" way and in my case the 2.8 would have been just as well in the end for the tiny gains compared to the cost and effort. Sure, if your 2.8 is dead (as mine was) you're going to have to do most of the work anyway, but if your 2.8 runs and drives...might be worth holding off on the swap until you actually NEED to. You've got an LSomething project to build anyway, don't you?
Good luck.

Hmmm, food for thought. I'd be reusing everything from my 2.8, albeit with 4.3 parts here and there as dictated by the Isuzu people.
Maybe a diesel is the answer.
Either way, the 2.8 still runs fine. Just planning ahead.
