If this was closer, I would be posting a build thread. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/unhappy-18.png)

For sell 1977 Chevrolet Monza Mirage special Edition. Old and from my understanding not too many made. would make a wonderful car for a younger driver. Have owned sense new. Has not been regularly driven in the last 3 years will need cleaned and tires are old and cracked! Can not be drived at fast speeds until new tires are put on. No scammer's or joker's! Thank you and God bless you

Holy berkeley that's a steal at a grand! ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/googly-18.png)
Yep, if that was closer, I'd buy it.
I had a friend that had one with a 4 or 5 speed. With the 231 Buick V6 and the manual it was a cool little car and surprisingly quick.
Pretty car. Don't see many of them around me. Actually I can't remember the last time I saw a Monza of any flavor in the wild.
Only 6-7 hours from me and wow do I have a car boner right now!

I have 1200 for someone local to go grab it for me and sit it in your driveway for a month or two
I learned to drive manual in a girlfriend's Monza, when I was 15.
I also have those wheels on my Mini.
That is tempting.
Is this really true?
Seems too good to be true!
Someone buy that thing before it ends up in a demo derby.

Yeah thats the common scheme I've seen lately. Cars for 1000-1500 that look like they should be priced for more but aren't outrageously cheap. Google image search always comes back to a cardomain or other site from years back. Most of the time there is an email address listed in the ad that is someones name split by a period and a number at the end @gmail. If you email them they give you a line sending them money through moneygram or some other type of scam.
Just keep in mind that there is now exactly one tire worth buying that even halfass fits the stock 13" wheels (Kumho Solus TA11 185/70-13, stock works out to 185/75-13) and they have a oddball 4 on 4" lug pattern. Also, if it has a V6/8 engine and needs a starter, buy the smallest ministarter you can find so you hopefully don't spend a day pulling half the car apart (the Y pipe and PS manifold at minimum to get the stock one out) the next time it needs one.

I'm close enough to go get it, for myself
, but it looks like a scam. Too bad because those are pretty cool.

I'm pretty sure it's a scam, but since I've always been interested in how those types of scams work, I went ahead and sent a reply.
If by some weird chance it does pan out, at least I know I can re-sell it to patgizz in a couple months =)
Anyone who owned a Mirage since new knows it's a special car and would have been hounded by people wanting it offering money so they'd know roughly what it's worth. I smell scam

I have a hard buying into the the idea of someone named Phyllis, who bought the car new in 1977, using an expression like "needs cleaned" in a Craigslist ad.
God bless you, scammer...

Don't you know it's the current year? You're not supposed to recognize patterns!
Can't possibly be a scam, Google Earth attached to the ad drops you right into a Mexican restaurant in a strip mall.

If one of you finds out it's real and buys it, I'll put it in the yard behind my garage until you can come get it.
It might be deja vu, but I have a murky memory of this same scam being run on the same car a few years ago.

It's weird to me how the early Vega's were kind of pretty and then they became that thing over time. Not seeing the attraction but to each his own.
Almost bought one back in the day for the same money. Not the most impressive car but neat, in a way. Would have thought it'd have appreciated. I'd actually buy this if it was closer.
The IMSA Monzas were so bada$$ that I always wanted one! There was a guy running a V-6 5-speed car in ITA 30 years ago in Atlanta, as I recall it was heavy and underbraked.
Well if the OP's ad turns out to be a scam, there's this Monza for $1500.
