Sure it might have a blown motor, but seriously $1100? With a clean title?
Good gamble if it's merely flooded and not totally popped.
About $3,000 to pay someone else to fix it if it is totally popped (assuming you pull and put it back in yourself).
My local CL doesn't have any that cheap. There are a couple that don't run. They want more $ for worse looking cars.

This one is local to me and has been up for 26 days. I imagine he would be negotiable.
If I wasn't buying a house...
id throw $800 at the c-bus offering - i wonder what conventional piston engines can be bolted to the RX8 gearbox?
I am thinking 10k to laws swap with a mixture of my effort and a buddy who can fill in my fabrication deficiencies. The aluminum LS and T 56 are the bits that cost the most. There are a variety of rear end choices with lsd's in the JDM parts bin. There might also be good American options as well but need some more research.
Research the electronics side of things first. From what I heard through the grapevine s lot of failex RX8 swaps ended up that way not because of mechanical issues but because people couldn't get the electronics working properly.
Canbus2 as well as the GM ecu are required and there are lots of detailed how to threads on it. Most folks that get them done still skip AC which seems silly to me as it's only about brackets and a few fittings. Been researching and trying to talk myself out of it for the last year...
