I have a 1974 Tr6 that I had since 1976 and it always started up after sitting idle.
It has rebuilt carburetors, etc.
I took it out for a ride on a hot day, it overheated and stalled I managed to get it back to its parking space and I couldn’t get it started again.
I tried charging the battery and it turns over but doesn’t start .
I would love some suggestions or someone to come out and take a look at. Thank you so much!
The overheating may or may not have caused the non start problem. Is there water in the oil or vice versa? Look inside your oil filer cap is it milky looking? Look inside the radiator, does it have an oli slcik? Is the radiator full or did it lose coolant?
How long ago were the carbs rebuilt?
Is it getting gas? How long was it 'sitting' since it was last driven? The gas these days will cause all kind of problems (rust) in the gas tank and maybe even the fuel lines. I had a fuel delivery problem a couple years ago. I tried to flush - reverse flush several times back and forth and never really got all the particles out. I had to have mine cleaned out and coated by a radiator shop near me. The charged me $100.
Do you have a extra fuel filter in line? I have one of those glass filter so I can see what is going into the carbs.
Still have the points ignition? How are the points? Is it getting spark?

I know a good Triumph specialist in Bergen County, NJ. My TR6 is there now. Do you think you’d be able to get out there, or do you really need someone local?
Unless you smoked the head by overheating, your culprit is most likely fuel related. Good chance you boiled away the fuel in the carb float bowls and or in the fuel line. Once it cools down, start it with a little starter fluid and you should be good. If it starts on starter fluid but won't stay running, your problem is definitely fuel related.

I have tried starting fluid to no avail. I think it is a sparking problem.

No oil in water...
Radiator full.
Carbs rebuilt four years ago but with very little mileage less that 200 miles.
Fuel could be bad but i tried starer fluid sprayed in carbs to no avail.
I think it is a sparking problem.
Has points. Don’t think there is spark but not sure.
There is an inline fuel filter, gas pumps ok.

Update!
I put in a new battery and it started right up!
I drove it around for about a half hour and the radiator hot so hot that it was venting steam for like five minutes. When it finally subsided it seemed all or most of the water was in the radiator. The thermostat gauge is not connected so i couldn't tell if it was overheating the engine.
i couldnt find the wire that hooks to the sensor. Does anyone know where it is located?

I had to replace the distributor cap and it started right up!
present issues to deal with.
Need a Tr6 expert in nyc or Long Island area.
My tr6 runs like a charm but has some issues.
When the headlights are on the rear running lights don't work, the directional signals don't work, the horn sounds weak and other issues like that.
The Engine starts up immediately even after sitting for months. The engine runs great but seems to be overheating where the radiator boils over.
any help is appreciated and someone I can have look at it is great!
