Had to get a picture of my girl helping out. photo CAM00063_zpsnchwstmu.jpg

My grandpa also helped out. He did bodywork for years so he showed us the way to do it.

Patina look is the goal. And its what is hot for older vw vehicles around here. Since im hoping for a quick sell i figured i would do what the market wants. Plus i like the look too.

Problem is the camshaft and distributor shaft aren't lining up. Hoping we can fix it without tearing it all back down.

I don't meet a lot of ACVW people that don't carry that smile, makes me think I'm missing out.

Update: went cheap and decided on 1600cc. Anyone have a suggestion on a cheap but better than stock cam?

Nothing wrong with the stock cam. If you have a good running 1600 I'd be hesitant to tear it down to the point of needing cam replacement. And if you are in it that deep then going to 1776 like you originally planned isnt that much more effort or cost in the long run.

In reply to JThw8:

The 1600 we have is in pieces already. Bought brand new cylinders and pistons for it. Couldn't afford the machine work to go 1776.

Where are you located? I have a 914 5-speed that would play very nicely with that beetle.

Cool project. I've been looking for an ACVW to turn into a challenge car for the last couple years. Seems like the Dallas area is chock full of cars with no titles. Is that common up in your neck of the woods too?

I may be out of touch but holy crap TheSamba seems pricey these days!

This one doesnt have a title either. Most are that way it seems.

And the samba prices are super high.

Welp its been awhile since this thread has been updated but SWMBO has decided that we should build it into a cruiser for summer car shows and the like. Its odd for me not building a car to carve corners but its also relaxing.

Keep looking for updates in the future!
