Y'all enabled me.

Picked up my BIL's wrecked 2000-something Ford F250 Super Duty. 5.4L Triton V8, 6-speed (granny-low, 4 gears, overdrive). $250, but only because its got a high-dollar front bumper he didn't feel like giving away. Runs and drives. Body is trashed. Frame looks good. One broken rear leaf spring. All four shocks and both rear brakes have been cannibalized.

My general plan is to rebody it with something for use as a winter 4x4, spring mud truck.

I don't really expect an "easy button", but I do want to have this big bastard on the road and mostly functional by Christmas. I'm going to be away with work for a couple of weeks between now and then, so it's going to be a bit tight getting everything done.

Thoughts on rebody options? Right now the front-runner is this guy.

F6's are going to get expensive soon, there was just one on roadkill.

In reply to bgkast:

BIL rolled it in an alcohol-related accident. He walked away, the truck drove away, insurance totaled it, FIL (fire chief) used it for Jaws of Life practice.

Also, this.

And there's a '48 F-6 for sale less than 50 miles from here, but haven't got a response from the seller yet.

I vote the 60s Ford, that thing is fantastic, this should be a great build.

IMHO go 4 link and panhard on the rear with coilovers, unless you are going to load it up with a LOT of eight.

I love the idea. I Keep looking at a '60s F-600 near my inlaws that I'd love to swap onto a newer chassis.

Edit: Steve is on the right track, if you are putting a heavy load on it look at an air ride kit in place of the coil overs.

This is a fantastic idea. When I had the flatbedded 54 fod dually, this is what I should have done.

When I was a kid, my school bus used to drive by a green one that was about the same year and similar condition. Someone had spray painted Oscar on the front bumper. I still think of those trucks as Oscars.

Awesome! What do you do when you need to work on the engine? Unbolt the fenders or just climb over them and stand in the engine bay?

No different, the 6.0/7.3 trucks have to have the cab removed to do major work on the engine also... LOL.

This is going to be awesome!

Hello Charlie, don't be scared it's gonna be ok. Things may get uncomfortable for a bit but you will feel much better when it is over

Weld the nose together and have it hinged at the front to tilt out of the way for service.

Are there any adapters to fit the old wheels onto the Super Duty axles? I think that would really look good.

In reply to Wall-e:

I wouldn't be surprised if they are the same bolt pattern. My 46 GMC 8 lugs were the same up until 2007.

Well, Charlie is home.

Dexter approves of Charlie.

MrsInKansas stripped the old wiring out of Charlie, cleaned the rat mess out of the interior, and started removing the front panels while I finished pulling the harness, pedal cluster, and cab mounting bolts out of the wrecked white truck.

I won't say how I got the cab off, it was shameful. People driving past my house stopped and ogled.

But its off.

And now my driveway looks like that Jaguar picture.

Right? Kinda like that?

More tomorrow. Probably going to be a light day though, I'm gonna be sore as E36M3.
