Hey, Thanks (Dammit).
Update....the rebuilt injection pump is installed and we decided on a 1400 mile test drive. (Easter visits and my neice's wedding in Asheville, NC). That was fun! I have a problem with my torque converter ( pretty sure) as she will stall coming to a stop, but not if I kick to neutral. Other than that....smooth sailing and a fun trip. [/URL]
I generally hate motorhomes, but I always turn my head when I see these. A whole difference class of mobile accommodations.
Ok, i am duly impressed. What really sold it for me was the teenaged offspring in the back, thats holding....a book! And not some sort of mobile ignorance device....(as I type this from my own mobile ignorance device)
So my inner geek had to go to the online inflation calculator. $300K in 1983 is the same as $734,340 today.
So much win in this thread! Love it.
And FWIW, I looked for an altimeter for my RV when I started building it, they are huge and $$, lol so it hasn't appeared yet. We are the weird people who take our RV skiing and winter camping so knowing the altitude of the passes is kinda cool.
Thanks a ton.....I am in full agreement. I don't like RV's as a rule. Especially when they try too hard to impress....this is the only one that would suit me. It's quirky and when I look at it, I see "cool".
Like a good car, I Enjoy just looking at her.
Mndsn, Good eye on the "book spotting". My kids read a fair amount. Heck, one even writes for GRM, he enjoys the written word so much!!
Glad you guys approve....we will be at VIR for UTTC and Hfest if anyone wants a look up close.

I never thought I would enjoy it, but going into Asheville, it was cool to monitor the elevation changes. The giant compass is equally fun to observe. It's the simple things.

That's exactly what I said 20-some years ago. It took a while to make it happen, but worth the wait.
I saw one of these last week and had instant lust. I've got a 90 bounder that I bought for $1,700 last year because it had a few problems that the elderly owner's couldn't fix. So far we've taken on 4 trips including one to Maine and back to South Florida. I love the thing. Pretty jealous of this though.

Back in the day, this was pretty high end. It had bells whistles for the day (my personal favorite is the programmable musical horns) but the real value is in the tank like construction, including roll over protection. Having rented a few RV's over the years, this is comparatively like having a roll cage. The fit and finish is excellent, even after 35 years.
After our injection pump rebuild, we no longer had fuel in the valley....score. However, a new liquid showed up on the 750 miles from Asheville NC to home base....oil. I cleaned the engine and sprinkled talcum powder around and saw this
So, the injection pump came back out and the front o-ring was pulled. It was knicked on installation.
Tomorrow I get a nice 350 mile test drive to VIR for utcc. I think we've solved the issue....we shall see.
The test was a success. 14 hour round trip....carefree. UTCC was a blast....the 944 behaved herself as well and a good time was had by all.
How did I miss this? I also have one. I had some posts a few years back about the purchase. We drove it back to British Columbia from Michigan which was an adventure. I have been slowly upgrading ours (1981) and we use it all the time. We have put around 15000 miles on over the last 5 or 6 years. Unfortunately I am currently in the middle of replacing the plumbing system as I froze a couple of lines over the winter. But I used the opportunity to replace most of the copper with pex. If you have questions I have answers. I have been over pretty much every inch of ours by now.
That's amazing....We have cousins! I feel like I'm just getting an understanding of our systems so will be asking questions for sure. Our plumbing suffered the same fate and was converted to pex a few years ago. The PO did a nice job.
jh36, your son told me that you were mulling the idea of painting #36 to match Gabby's livery.
I am wholly in favor of that, and here is a token of my appreciation for your hospitality at Summit Point, which is also a message of support for BROWN:
Even if you don't paint the car BROWN, I hope you'll appreciate the functionality... because you'll never wonder, "Are these are the keys for the WanderLodge?"
Watch a few Regular Car Reviews on YouTube for the proper pronunciation of BROWN.
So... Much... BROWN.
That thing is awesome! Where did you guys find yours?
And, if you don't mind me asking, what's the going rate?
In reply to CrookedRacer:
Oh man! That excels! Plus I have no key fob for the bus! I am doubly motivated to transform into a matched set! Thanks CrookedRacer, the weekend was crushing and I will further delve into the deeper meanings of brown directly!!!!
In reply to WonkoTheSane:
I found mine close to home on Craigslist browsing for projects one Saturday morning. Strange because I've never seen one locally. I had no plans to buy a bus, but my wife really liked it (classic enabler) and we bought it that day. The best place to bone up is on the is the Wanderlodge Owners Group website which also has buses for sale. FC series Prices go from free (read $$$$$ project) to $15-20k for running/various degrees of need, and $20-30 for a solid example. There are many years and versions of the Wanderlodge, but I like mine because of the "classic" styling with a 3208 turbo Cat. It definitely makes the racing weekends a pleasure!
