Hi Everybody,

My project car has an L24e engine* from a Maxima, but the intake has been replaced with the dual side draft carb intake from a 240z. I now want to get that engine running.

I've been looking at the updates for the Classic Motorsports 240z project car.

Classic Motorsports said: While we are pleased with our Magnecor plug ignition wires and PerTronix ignition

I'm not sure, though, what was used for the distributor. Does anybody out there have an idea what was used?

More importantly, Is anyone willing to offer advice on how to spark to the engine? Would you go with a Pertronix? ...an MSD 6AL? I just need ideas here how you folks would set things up.

Caution: I sometimes bang on metal with hammers, but I know absolutely nothing about making cars move. Please be patient with me and use many small words to make sure that I understand you.

Thank you, a prodigal son

[*] - Yes, this is for the 1932 Datsun replica. It sat for three years without being worked on, but now I've decided it is better to put get the car on the road than to have it sit in the garage hoping I can figure out how to DIY it.

Pertronix is for converting points ignition to simple electronic ignition. They are cheap and effective, I've used the system many times with success. If your existing points distributor is in good condition it should work quite well, and will stock, except for the wires from the distributor to the coil. It will probably work just fine with your existing coil too. Once it's up and running, set timing just like with points, without needing to mess with dwell.

I can't comment on the MSD because I've never used one.

I recently put a pertronix system in my 240Z. It worked great and I don't have to mess with the points anymore. I replaced the coil at the same time and eliminated the ballast resistor.

I'm using Magnecore wires on my 280zx, but that's because I needed strong noise suppression to avoid glitches in my Megasquirt system. They are effective; the noise suppression is so good you can't use an inductive timing light with them! But - you probably don't need them if you're not running sensitive electronics.

What distributor is on the engine now? That engine use to be EFI so does it have a distributor with a module on the side like the 77+ engines?
