Im back. And in addition to the splitfure making its 2nd annual debut this year, it will be accompanied by what i consider to be, a very heavy hitter.
I made a public post on facebook looking for an altima to race in the ole altima 600 hosted by cleetus down in bradenton. I was expecting to get shared post or maybe individuals that wanted to rid their lives of a sad pathetic ragged out altima i would get cheap to go down and destroy. However, what i got instead, was below....
A 2006 Altima SE-R that has spent the better part of 5 years parked on a lift in the back of a garage that had not seen a racetrack in probably 6+ years. It had been torn down to make multiple upgrades but i was told the classic line "ran when parked." So naturally i pleaded my case and that id like to race it for the atlima race but also the grm race if i could get it for the 2k limit, and they agreed.
A week later i showed up and loaded the roller, and about a million parts into the bed of my truck. Currently sorting and sifting through hundreds of bolts trying to find a home and inspecting major components in hopes that ill get it together and it will in fact run. It is a stock drivetrain car but did have new tires (probably flat spotted by now) with wilwood front brakes and a cold air intake. The primary benefits of the car is that it was caged, and very thoroughly gutted. And its in great shape since it was revamped and hasnt seen action since. Never had time to get tore up.
For the TLDR guys, crazy GRM challenger buys someones abandoned project with hopes to win an event he never has.
On the bright side, you can't drive around with the rear bumper halfway hanging off if you don't even have a rear bumper...so this is already the highest-class altima i've ever seen

Altimas should come caged from the factory, and I am very much following your journey. Loved the splitfire idea, hope this one is as good :)

Ironically you can tell there was previously Big altima energy because at some point it was hit in that right rear bumper area lol. She will look full classy for the challenge and have all bumpers installed. For how long though? Who knows. Altima energy prevails.
If you want to do it correctly you'll need to run the event with at least two spare tires, at least one of which must be on a drive wheel.
The SE-R was no slouch in stock trim.
Hell yeah this has so much potential to be awesome.

The QR25 had plenty of potential too. The one in my Sentra Spec V Turbo put 270 hp to the wheels.

Just watched that Altima 600 episode and thought of you. Probably a good thing you weren't ready in time...you might not have a Challenge car afterwards! Practically a destruction derby.

Yeaaaaa, I made the conscious decision to not go in fear it would get destroyed. after watching the race, i felt good about that decision. Plus with him annoucning they will allow 100 cars next race, this car will NEVER go to that race under my ownership lol
After watching the video he posted about the Altima 600 I would say its was a good call to not go. That race looked like complete chaos.
