Grandma Stampie primarily heats her house in the winter with a fireplace. That means she needs to split logs. She has difficulty pull starting a log splitter so a few years ago I got her a harbor freight manual log splitter.

That got an OK rating. It was possible to use but still difficult and the bullE36 M3 tabs to hold the log were bullE36 M3ty.

So for Christmas Grandma Stampie got an air over hydraulic bottle jack.

Lil Stampie and I tore the old splitter down and started to mock it up. First the new jack isn't a drop in.

Looks like it needs about 1/2 inch in shims to make it level to the I beam.

We needed to modify the sled that pushes the log and I happened to have some pipe that fits perfect.

Now we're off to the metal store for more supplies.
I opened this hoping for a demo derby car. LOL

I'd hate to go against her in a demo derby. She looks like a sweet older lady but she's awnry.

We squirreled on the way to the metal store. First we went to pick up a barrel dolly to mount the splitter on. Dude was slightly CL late but with it as he had all kinds of cool stuff. We got a crosswalk pole cause hey $15.

Then we noticed one neighbor trying to pull a bush out for another neighbor. They were using an Xterra without much success. We hooked up the 99 Silverado and with 5 or so hard pulls got it out. Sorry Lil Stampie failed and didn't get pictures.
Now we're hungry so lunch break for Moon River pizza. It's the best in Jacksonville if anyone ever comes through.

Since everyone looked pictures here's a picture of Lil Stampie's bacon pizza.

If rose9 was a real poster, and the comment was humor, she'd fit right in 'round here!
BTW, would love to see Granny Stampie's finished log splitter.

Well, my husband really likes to eat a good pizza after splitting the logs.
The canoe for this is gonna be hot pink and covered in glitter and silicone toys

Actually need to finish it up. It got put to the side but glad to get the canoe reminder.
I'm glad you might row this canoe. I've been thinking about log splitters and wonderign if there was a cheap option.

If you want some ideas of what not to do search YouTube for DIY log splitter. There's some scary stuff on there.

So, I don't fit in here?
We get a lot of posters that are actually robots. Are you real? Are you not a robot?
If you are real, you are more than welcome to stay

If you have a perverted sense of humor, you do. But kinda an odd first post. So time will tell.
I figured you would rerig an engine/hydraulic powered one to have an electric start. That being said, depending on factors, slower is safer.

Well, my husband really likes to eat a good pizza after splitting the logs. Because he says after a good work you need to eat a good pizza. My grandma lives in the village and each summer we go to her and help her prepare for the winter, we help her with preparing logs. I can recommend you this site [removed by mod], you can find here a lot of log splitters. A year ago, my husband bought a [thing], so she could cut logs herself if that would be necessary and we wouldn't be with her to help. Last summer when we cut logs, she tried to cut one and said it was easy.
I think the answer is "no", you don't fit in here.

I agree with you so yesterday we walked down the road to where I noticed one had been sitting for a few weeks. Never met the kid (young adult) before but he's a tinkerer and always had projects going. He asked me to make an offer and when I paused long enough he threw out "I'd want at least $100." Didn't argue or ask to hear it run just handed him $100 and towed it home.

We got the engine off the other day. Well I got it off while Lil Stampie attacked my fence with a hammer.

My small engine guy has an electric start 6.5hp Briggs and Stratton that he thinks will work. We'll go there after work to check it out.
Even better it's a 6.75hp engine with wiring harness and key.

I noticed a few years back that, somewhere along the way, the changed from labeling by HP, to labeling by torque. The bigger number sounds more impressive to consumers. That is there numbers are even close to correct...
Does your mother actually have no problem with splitting the logs on the ......uh wait a minute , get yur DAWG arse over there and do it!! for your dear mother....cheeeshh!!!

I mean guys have been doing that for all of history.

Trust me everytime I go up there I have a list of things to do. I let her decide what's on the list.
I sanded down the id plate and got the model number. Then I ordered a tune up kit including carb. Hopefully that'll be in early next week.

I knew that you did ....just wanted to hear it from your own pie hole......wink
Spent the last two days removing stuff from the new engine. We just cut the shaft to remove this because the shaft was too long anyway.

The pulley had a setscrew that didn't want to unset.

How much did it not want to move? This much.

Out came the sawzall again.

And then put my Lovejoy coupler on.
