Hey Guys,

I'm putting new pads and rotors on my wifes above car.  The calipers will not go on.  I didn't realize that the caliper guide pins were completely stuck.  I cannot get them to slide at all.  I can get the pins to spin, but not come out.  I would love to not  have to order new brackets.  I put vice grips on the pin and tried to tap it out, no soap.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Get yourself some liquid wrench (at any autoparts store or Walmart) and spray the absolute F out of the slide pins. Tap the pins with a small ball peen or a punch for a few minutes. If you can turn them they will come out once the liquid wrench works its way through.

For the future, acquire some Kroil for situations like this

And always coat your slide pins with CRC brake grease on re-assembly.

it's moot now.  One of the sliders snapped off in the bracket.  I just ordered a new bracket from rock auto.

Well for future reference when they're in that "spinning but won't come out" phase I find it helps to put the pin in some vise jaws and work the whole bracket back and forth with constant upward force. Or heat the bracket with the torch until the pin shoots out like a cannon (don't do that).

In reply to orthoxstice :

I actually got the other three out with pressure applied with a screw driver and turning the pin.  I was trying to work this pin when it snapped.  I am shocked at how grimy and seized these are.  The car only has 85 k on it.

I lube mine up twice a year. For some reason they are extremely tight on the ST brackets.
