I really hope so nohome.
Just got done washer the thing to blast all the dust and media out of the nooks and crannies. We also got the floor scrubbed so Mary can paint the interior before paint. Just a good coat of rustoleum under the carpet and where the sound deadening used to be.

Water on the sealer coat I am not worried about, but if washing the car, I would maybe stick to panel wipe until the car is sealed.
Honestly, i figured that I already had the hose out for wetsanding at 400.
Then another round of high build, and wetsanding with 600.
Right?

After the high fill was flat, I went to a sealer coat of 2k urethane. That stuff can be left like epoxy since it is weatherproof.
I am not sure of the featherfill when it comes to absorbing water. I stuck to using panel wipe to light check and clean when doing the high fill primer work.
Featherfill SAYS that you can top coat the stuff. I tried that when I did the Bugeye, sanded it to 400, but was not pleased with the results so I ended up sanding the first color coat down with 600 grit and using the first color coat as the sealer.
You have Art aon the scene and you say he is a bodyman? Trust his advice, does not seem like this is his first rodeo!
In the Nemo voice, "just keep Sanding, just keep Sanding, just keep Sanding"
Your making huge progress fast!
Yeah, art is the best $200 bodyman in the county. He's the guy that normally paints my beaters. He also did the elky (64 pro touring el camino that got totaled), the white neon from a bunch of pages back, etc. He sprays E36 M3 paint in E36 M3 conditions better than most people can spray expensive paint in a booth.
Im grateful hes giving me advice and poiters and help, but I want this one a bit above his normal stuff. I WANT it as nice as the duster. Ill settle for better as good as the elky.

Art will be the first to tell you that the results you want are just a matter of putting out the last 10% of the effort that most dont.
Im kinda wondering what that 10% is. Just want to give myself the best chance i can.
Art swung by.
He gave me a punch list, helped me do some detail sanding, and told me to plan on paint by memorial day!

I should probably put this in minor confession but I thought tomorrow was Memorial Day until yesterday afternoon. Was wondering why the junkyard didn't have a sale going.

That clinches it. I'm cutting out the radiator support on my car and making it removable. That just looks damn uncomfortable.
In reply to Crackers :
It is. It really, really is.
We need to wait for the rain to pass. I talked myself into another round of high build and blocking to 600. Seems like a good measure since we already went this far.
"Waiting for the rain to pass" is the story of my life.
We got the last (hopefully) coat of high build done a few minutes ago. Finish sanding starting tomorrow.

Are you going to do a sealer coat or paint over the high build?
Urethane (?) Sealer. Its what I was told to get. Then base and a berkeleyton of clear. Then wetsanding and buffing.

mary has been working on painting the entire inside black with a two inch brush. This is to prevent further rust.
She's doing a fantastic job!

Nice! Regardless of how the rest comes out that will always be your favorite part i bet

You are on the way.
Once the sealer is on the car and you think you are ready for paint, wash the car and have a critical look. It should meet your expectations at this point. As much as you wont want to do any more work, then is the time to fix the little E36 M3 that will justify all the work you did up until now. It is all fixable until the color goes on.
If ever there was a time to quote my favorite presidential candidate:
"Most people give up just when they're about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from a winning touchdown."

Heck, she's been helping me the whole time! Shes going to sign it somewhere. Have to.
And the floors are awesome. Especially since she's doing it with almost no help!
In reply to NOHOME :
Will do!!!
I feel like I am sooo close to perfect with this. Im actually nervous about color. Im afraid i missed something, or the color coat will go wrong, or some other freak out that makes me have to start over from the beginning. Im afraid it will look horrible in color.

Pictures of the Molvo in urethane sealer just after being washed. It looked perfect except for 3 spots I figure nobody would notice. I was right in that.

It is All I notice when I look at the car. Wish I had taken the time to do a glaze putty swipe and smooth the itty bitty little spots out. But (insert excuse here) and I did not.
Don't get me wrong, pretty impressed with how it turned out considering the whole car was a waffle when I started. Just that it gets a bit obsessive after a while if you start caring.
Looking forward to the nest post!

I need to. Probably need one myself.
And hand sanding the jambs and engine bay and hood bracing and hinges SUCKS. taking forever to do. But, gotta be done.
Just wish i could do more before my hands go numb.

Doesn't that make it like somebody else is sanding your car?
