So there has been most of a John Deere GT242 sitting in the yard for a while. Today I got bored and bolted an engine to it.
I have a vague plan that involves a lot of winging it. We'll see where this goes.

I'll definitely do that before I hang the deck. And probably a few times after to be honest.
I just want to say that "I have a vague plan that involves a lot of winging it" is the most GRM thing I have read in quite a while. It also seems like the perfect way to handle Lockdown Time, when so many rules and constraints are being imposed on us by circumstances we can't control or predict.

"I had a vague plan that involved a lot of winging it" should really be my eulogy.
Hey, I didn't know these belt driven JD's could pull the wheels..... I got two (don't ask) 140's.....Is this a 'here hold my beer and watch this' moment??
I don't have JD experience, but my '68 belt-driven 12hp wheelhorse will do it easily even with the deck installed.

I did just bolt a 23hp engine down where a 14hp once sat.
To be honest I I actually see this thing being a practical machine once it's operational again. Popping the wheels will be a nice side effect.
I have some parts on order. In the meantime I'm planning wiring and possible body panel ideas. All the plastic was smashed at some point in it's life and none of it was usable. New controls will just be mounted directly to the steering column support. A hood might nice though. It will probably also get round headlights mounted on uprights from the frame just because.
