i'm just not sure I need 17x9's with tires that are worth more than what i paid for the car..

not yet at least..

Well.. I have a new alternator on the way and so I thought I'd prepare for it to go in and familiarize myself with the installation. To get to the alternator the following have to come off.

Core support cover(plastic under/ around hood latch)

Core support upper cross beam.

Passenger side cooling fan and shroud...

So onto the job!

None of these bolts have ever turned.. They're crusty and fight me a bit to start..

Cover comes off by popping 4 grommets, to on it and 1 on the inner fender trim on the front corner. They're fairly obvious.

Then it's bolting the grille from the cross beam uses a 4mm hex key. The passenger side one broke on my car a long time ago apparently

Then it's loosening the 2 bolts that hold the radiator cap to the cross beam.

Then it's the 2 top bolts to the cross beam.

2 backside bolts to the cross beam. One is next to the hood prop and the other is next to the battery.

2 front bolts to the cross beam (grille has to be loose to reach these) they're just outside and down from the grille mounts.

And then loosening the 2 mounting bolts for the AC condenser.

Then you have 3 electrical holders to cut or remove. And then unclipping the hood sensor from the harness to finally remove the beam.

The hood sensor clip also has a release to let it be loose from the beam.

Now you have access to the top of the fan and shroud which are 1 unit.

And that's when I discovered the Mud Dauber nest! Luckily uninhabited

Ok.. Now I'm really sweaty and callin it a night..

My big Accord engine bay in my air conditioned garage. laugh

Also, why I spent waaaaaay too many hours and dollars to make all the front plastic and shrouding come off with dzus. Use anti-seize on the bolts for the radiator shround and all of that and life will be easier next time. Spin the tensioner pulley by hand and see how it feels. If it's anything other than perfectly buttery smooth then it should probably be replaced.

idler pulley on top is making a little noise now and the AC system has some kind of blockage or the compressor is failing.

i had to replace my idler as well, sounded like a skateboard wheel.  turn the volume way up and you can hear it.  here's a video i took of it:

for the A/C, i did a HVAC system reset via the dashboard controls, the button sequence is in my project thread.  i had warm/inneffective AC and doing a reset fixed a stuck blend door i think, now it blows frosty.  worth a shot for just pressing a few buttons!

also is that Justin's car with the SSR's?  dammit, i live like 2 hours from him...NO I MUST BE STRONG

Appreciate you chiming in on the HVAC controls. They seem to be operating fine. I think the voltage issue has been messing with the relay itself or just causing the AC compressor clutch to disengage somehow. I had no issues cruising at 70-75mph the whole way home Sunday night. So I'm pretty confident it's the alternator just dying. And then I can get into seeing if the AC still has issues. Which wouldn't surprise me with the age of the car.

And my idler is for sure going out. It makes a hiss occasionally as the car runs. I'm just waiting till I need a bunch of stuff from rock auto to order it. Appreciate your video.

Put a meter on the battery after work. 11.95 V no ignition... Adding high beams at idle drop to 11.5

Adding 2500RPM only gave me 12.5...

So confirmed bad alternator and pulled old one and turns out it's not OEM.... It's some kind of RE-MAN unit

New one goes in and idle produces 13.5V

VICTORY!! And AC blows cold in the garage.... So I'll run the car to work tomorrow and if it's a problem I'll start checking it out.. But I suspect it was a lack of voltage issue..

Also my Underhood noise is basically gone now.. So that's good too..

OH SHES HAPPY NOW!!!

need to throw gauges on the AC but holy E36 M3 she pulls like she's supposed to now.

I thought I was just slightly underwhelmed because the focus pulls harder in the midrange... NOPE.... It was definitely not this fast on Sunday.

It has come to my attention that your Civic is getting better mpg than my SL1 while packing an extra 100hp. I need a better daily.

You need a base 8th gen Honda.. It will get you sorta VTAKS and it will be way more efficient than your Saturn..

Glad it's running better! I have some AC issues as well. My trusted indy shop says the compressor is dead.

In more important areas of my car that need attention are my sticking front driver side  caliper. Should I just do the TSX brake upgrade now if I'm going to replace the front calipers anyway? I'm tempted by the TL Brembo upgrade, but that requires aftermarket wheels and I'm on the fence about dropping probably close to $2k on brakes and wheels at the moment.

Man, I've really wanted an 8th-gen, although I much prefer the sedan styling to the coupe. Unfortunately around here, by the time they get to my kind of price, the rocker panels and quarter panels are non-existent.

after driving the accord with stock master cyl with the willwoods... if you do the TL upgrade do the MC with it..

If you don't want to drop coin, just replace the bad caliper

I think rock auto even has a sale on the powerstop calipers at $73 for the pair up front.. And that includes the core charge!

If you're going to upgrade, do the TL upgrade..

That's my line of thought.

ok, Solid progress this evening.

finally installed those radio and AC knobs I snagged from the junkyard for free.

wow do they make a nice cosmetic difference.

and Old headliner came out and the "new" used one went in.. and holy crap did i start finding more grime..

More cleaning still to be done.

but here's the "new" and old headliners for a reference point

and what you cannot see are the crystalized something spores under the frayed edges of the original headliner at every corner.. oh its NASTY.

Here's a video looking up after install was done.

AC appears to be something internal to the compressor or the lines..

it works fine going down the road. Both fans are working.. and the compressor clutch is engaging fine as far as I can tell..

when i fire the car up after work it blows nice and cold right off the bat.. so I'm somewhat at a loss. But it's totally workable around town and It's workiung perfect on extended highway runs.... so i'm not unhappy..

Yeah I think I am of the same mindset. It's a huge investment to make when I also want to put a set of koni yellows + Swift on springs on the car. I bought it with tokico blues installed which ride/handle like ass.

When I pulled this headliner I found these little LED bulbs in the overhead lights on the junkyard car! Pulled them then and installed them tonight!

I'd definitely focus on your suspension first then.

Something silly like dirt packed up in the condenser? If the inside of the car was was so nasty I'm sure under the hood was just as bad.
