Man I thought this thread was getting updated with content from the OP.  Weird seeing that intake manifold under the hood of an 88.

From like 1995-2003 TPI swaps were all the rage. Then when LS engines started becoming more available that slowed down pretty quick. LT1 swaps were in there but production numbers were lower and the LT1 cars didn't disintegrate as fast as the 3rd Gens -- perhaps not as much due to build quality but secondary market owner quality.

P.S. Of course the alternator is new.

That is my pace car with the tpi swap at morris, it's a great car I purchased it last April and I went to 63 car shows with it in 2024

Good evening.  I worked on the car for the first time in almost a year and a half...  and it was because the alternator wasn't charging..  and the dome lights were stuck on anytime the battery was hooked up.

Loose connection for the alternator and now we're charging at 14.6 vdc, and the lights were stuck on because I had turned them on.  Felt like a dolt for that one.  I also removed the msd box I had disconnected and cleaned up the tach signal wiring in between the tach, distributor and fuel injection system.

About the same time the pace car went off the rails my wife and I made another car purchase.  We had some friends that were moving overseas and people were lowballing the hell out of them and I mean ridiculous offers like $5k.  Its a late 2007 that at the time had 102k miles on it.  Its got 114k now and I keep it covered in the driveway because my garage is too full.

We needed the room for the new addition to the family....  he may only be 12 and a half pounds but his personality and ego are huge.  I introduce to you, Mochi man.  Our friends that moved overseas had him since he was a puppy and they decided to leave him with us when they moved to SE Asia.  They loved him very much and didn't want him to get sick there.  Their daughter recently moved back here to live with her boyfriend and when we need a dogsitter they're more than willing to watch him and our bichon mix Joie.

This leaves me with 6 cars, parking for 5 and insurance is $$$$$$ so I have to sell something and I think it'll be the Civic.  1990 Si hatchback.  313k miles on the body.  Has a d15b7.  Passed ca smog last month.  Currently registered through November 2025.  I will put a ad in the cars for sale section I've just been procrastinating on it.  I love the car and have had it for over 17 years.  With the way people drive after covid it feels like I'm driving my own coffin.  I honestly don't know what it would be worth so I figure it'll be close to challenge price.

I'm on call for work this weekend so we'll see if/when I am able to work on the pace car again this weekend.  I need to pump the old gas out and put some new gas in it.  The gas is at least 2 years old and it stinks.  It runs on it but I don't want to mess anything up on it.  I'll need to write another list.

Thank you it is appreciated.  Its taken a while to get back to working on cars for fun.  Inbetween a kitchen remodel, catching covid, senior dogs with cancer, helping our friends that moved overseas and general malaise feeling.  The surgery in 2019 left me with permanent numbness on the side of my face, neck and jaw that gets worse with movement.  It became easier to sit down and watch youtube and drink beer when I had free time.  Buying a garmin smartwatch and quitting drinking were the 2 best things I've done for myself in the last 6 months.  I use the garmin to track my sleep and track energy levels and water intake.

Last time I posted I had cleaned up some wiring and got it running again.  Now I wanted to mount the handheld display permanently.  I didn't want to drill into the dash panels so I found a magnetic cell phone mount and used double sided tape to attach a fender washer to the back of the handheld.

I had purchased the connectors and terminals to build an extension harness to run the wiring inside.  I found out I didn't need them.  The wiring was long enough to run inside if I depinned the harness supplied by the manufacturer.  I didn't want to punch another hole through the firewall at this time and the AEM wideband O2 sensor is no longer installed, the existing hole is large enough even with 2 other circuits through it to pass the wiring through.

Installed and running.  Next weekend I may drain the old fuel out if its not going to be too hot.  Was going to wash the Escalade and cover it up afterwards but I ran out of energy.  Last Thursday was my niece's 8th grade graduation and my starter in my wife's car failed when we went to leave so we had to take the fancy suburban instead.  Then I installed a starter in it when we got home in the street.  Wasn't a bad job to be honest.  On a 2012+ Impala/Impala Limited you need to remove the catalytic converter to get the starter out.

Glad to see you back wrenching on this car! I didn't realize back then that you were running an original MSD Atomic setup on the car. I have the later Atomic 2 on my truck and it's been great. I ended up doing something similar with the handheld screen on mine. On the later ones, they have touch screens (it's the same as the Sniper/Terminator/etc) and mounting it on an arm like that made it register touch inputs, so I mounted it right to the gauge cluster.

Glad to see this again. Hope it stays running for you.

I saw these over the weekend. These are the actual Pace cars, driven by William C Ford Sr, Rodger Ward, James Garner, Jim Rathmann, Carroll Shelby, Duke Nalon, Bobby Unser etc.
