Something very odd going on there. I don't believe any mk1 Cougars were available as a fastback. Only the sedan and convertible body styles offered from the factory.
That kind of looks like fastback bodywork from a Mustang grafted onto a Cougar.
That's pretty cool. If the workmanship is decent, it could be a really unique thing to take to car shows. Alas, I do not have the time, money, space, or skill to complete it.
Did Ford ever make one of these ?
even as a prototype ? It would be interesting if they changed the tail to be more cougar
Ad says it's sold. Curious how it would look if/when completed. Might be awesome, might be kind of a mess.

One of the original prototypes for the Mustang was a small fastback car called Cougar. It had a front end that was vaguely similar to what Ford used on the 65-66 Mustang with rectangular headlights that were covered by clear lenses (my description is not great). The rear end treatment REALLY vaguely resembled the look of the Mustang with rectangular lenses but no gas cap in the rear panel. The roofline, now that I think of it, looked like a 1st generation Barracuda without the huge expanse of glass.
I had a 1/24th scale model, at one time. I can't remember for sure, but I seem to remember that this Cougar was a 2 seater, just like several of the other Mustang prototypes.
Do a Google Images search for Shelby Cougar II or Cougar II or Cougar.

The funny thing about the Cougar II prototype is that it used a 289 Cobra chassis. Leaf springs and all.
Kind of a Corvette-looking car.
