I believe these are on the Mazda BP chassis (or is considered a close cousin) which gives you a ton of cars to pull hardware from.  Might be a fun canvas to work with.  And I always liked those wheels.

I bought one of these things new in 1991, my very first FWD vehicle, and it was a BLAST.  I think it had 127 HP but revved like mad.  Really fun car, way before I had any interest or knowledge of what a good handling car was.  I bought another one in 1993 for one of my sons, who promptly totalled it.  Oh, well..... crying

I have always wanted to take a FWD car that has a rwd cousin and make the FWD one RWD and make it as stock looking as possible.

This style escort and the Miata being a top contender.

In reply to chandler : Thanks, I was wondering where it was at. Still to scared to drive by as I might want it. My shop is still full on non-runners in various pieces lol

They are fun little cars and the asymmetrical grille is all sorts of 90s awesome.

In reply to slowbird :

Is it a transmission that you need, am I remembering that right?

Correct! Well, either an automatic transmission, or if swapping to manual, the transmission and all the other stuff to do such a swap, of which I have only a limited understanding. laugh

Same. When I saw Ohio I was hoping Cincinnati area since that's about 95 miles away from me . Unfortunately this car is about 225 miles away.

Well then this will blow your mind.

In Australia they had a BG chassis version of the Escort called a Laser, but instead of being BP powered it had a 323 GTX drivetrain underneath it. Yes...it's AWD.

So if you traverse the globe you could find our pedestrian BP powered FWD cars, these oddities from down-under, or the fire-breathing Cossie AWD rally monsters from England(although they were closer to a Sierra chassis with an BG-styled body).

Oh, if only I had a way to ship Aussie Laser parts over here...or even just get 323 GTX parts for the drivetrain...

But really I just want the cheesy full-width rear reflector from the trunklid of that Laser laugh

There was an awd (maybe turbo too?) Tracer at the challenge some years ago. I remember it was for sale on here at one point. I wonder what happened to it

I drove by there just now, it's between a Peugeot wagon painted like a French flag and a couple 740s. He was leaving in an XC90 with a loud exhaust that sounded pretty good.
