1935 Austin 7 Special

Class Race Cars Pre-War

This was built from a damaged Austin van, all the way back in 1935. This Special was then originally built in 1937.

The car is beautifully constructed. In particular, the front suspension is very cleverly fabricated. The car possesses huge drum brakes, reminiscent of a GP car of its era.

The car was raced in Britain in 193839 and at the outbreak of hostilities, the owner entered the RAF and was killed in the war.

In 1991 the car was found in a barn and then restored. In 1995 it began racing first on the east coast and then out west, where is was accepted five times for the Monterey races.

The current owner has owned the car since2008 and has raced it five times.

Details:  This sleek, low-slung TR3 was rescued after 30 years in a basement, totally disassembled. It took me six years to restore the car to factory original condition.

The car has received best of show awards at two national Triumph shows and class awards at Hilton Head and Des Moines concours. Also invited and shown at Radnor Hunt, Greenwich, Keeneland and Hemmings concours.

Details: Designed by Giovanni Michelotti and largely based on the Triumph Herald, the Spitfire was manufactured at Canley, Coventry. It was the first British Sports Car of its class to feature roll up windows, front disc brakes, and rack and pinion steering. This Spitfire has been in the family since it was bought new in January 1964. It was raced extensively by the current owner’s father, winning the Texas Regional Special Class A SCCA Championship in 1964 and 1965, and placing 1st Overall in Carroll Shelby's 1967 Terlingua Time Trials. After obtaining the car in 2005, the current owner spent the next seven years personally performing a complete frame off, nut and bolt restoration in tribute to his father. Having recently completed a second frame off restoration, the current owner maintains the family racing tradition by placing 1st Overall in the Spitfire Autocross Class at two recent National Triumphests.

Exported new to the US and matching numbers.  Purchased on eBay in 2011 from a dealer who found it partially restored in New Hampshire.  Restoration completed after three more years by the owner, fitting authentic parts including semaphore indicators, dipping headlamp reflector, fuel system and electrical components, dashboard instrumentation, weather equipment and full period tool kit.  The supercharger, Ki-gass fuel primer and aero screens were added similar to those in 30’s MG’s that owners could use for weekend competition.  Prewar MG’s used gear driven overhead camshaft engines based on Hispano-Suiza designs for WW1 aircraft, plus advanced cross-flow cylinder heads.

Details: Factory built, matching number 100M.  Delivered new to a USAF officer in Japan, then returned to NY state with two more owners.  In storage from 1966-96 when the present owner purchased it from a dealer in PA, complete and authenticated by BMIHT.  Six year owner restoration and then damaged in a house fire a year later.  Second rebuild by the owner to concours level in the original colors of OEW/black with detailed attention to original specification parts and finishes, particularly in the engine compartment, interior trim and trunk.  Original 48 spoke wheels with correct Dunlop RS5 tires.  Twin 6V batteries.

1963 Corvette Split Window owned by Darwin & Patricia Ludi of Chula Vista, CA

Class: Corvette or Sport & GT cars from 1960 - 1969

Tuxedo Black with a Black inteior

Numbers matching 327 with 250 hp. Options include a 4 spd transmission, 338 gears with positraction, power steering with an AM/FM radio. 

Car was originally delivered to Fresno Chevrolet in 1963. Car is a late model 63. We have owned the car since 1990 not knowing that the 250 hp 327 was the base engine. Car was painted and restored by Gene Townsend of El Cajon, CA. At its first showing it won at the Ironstone Concours at Murphy Lake, CA. We are the 4th owners to the car. It has remained in Southern California its whole life. 

In 2008 it was selected by the National Corvette Museum to be displayed for one year in the 3's exhibit. The exhibit included a 53, our 63, 73,83,93 and a 2003 Corvette.

1965 Pontiac GTO owned by Darwin & Patricia Ludi of Chula Vista, CA

Class: American Muscle Car

We have owned this Montero Red 65 GTO since December of 1989. The car is a matching numbers 389 that came with a a tri power 2 speed automatic.

Options include power steering, power brakes, power antenna, AM/FM radio, and 3:55 gears with positraction. Car was restored 5 years ago and still retains its beauty. Only event it has been entered in was a Goodguys event 15 years ago. In 2005 (Super Bowl 40) our GTO was selected to be filmed racing down the quarter mile against a 70 Chevelle SS with a 396. Our GTO represented the Seattle Seahawks. The race was shown on the turbotron after the coin flip at the Silver Dome in Detroit. 

I believe we are the 4th owners of the car which was originally sold new in at Clohecy Pontiac in Detroit, Michigan.

Out 65 was displayed at the 40th Anniversary of the GTO in Detroit. That was the year when the 2004 GTO was introduced.

Details:  The original owner special ordered this right hand drive XK-120 OTS Jaguar from a New Jersey dealership.  When his family was expanding, he traded the car in for a Mk VII Jaguar at our New Jersey dealership, Walt Hansgen Jaguar Cars in 1960.  My father, Walt Hansgen, replaced the disc wheels with a set of Borrani wire wheels, installed a dual exhaust system, repainted the car in light blue silver metallic lacquer and made it his personal car.  I inherited the car in 1966.  Due to low oil pressure (later found to have a cracked crank), the car was stored for 30 years.  In 2007 I completed a two year ground up restoration to the current condition.  The car is a frequent driver.

1948 Willys CJ2A

This is our 1948 Willys CJ2A that we spent the last 13 years restoring as a family project, My wife Linda, son Chris and grandson Alex  and I did all the work ourselves from the sandblasting,cutting,welding, sheet metal, engine / transmission and paint witch is the original color for this Jeep pasture green with autumn yellow wheels. We finished this little Jeep in may of 2019 and have taken it to many car shows around Northen California and have won many awards 18 in total including local concours events in Chico Ca. and Goodguys events. We were looking forward to the Ironstone concours in Murphy's Ca. this year but with Covid we only got to do the tour drive,  we hade a great time and got to meet a lot of new friends. Completing assembly May 17,1965 and delivered to Köln Germany, numbers matching 230SL presents in its original as-built factory specification of Red Metallic (DB571), Light Antique Yellow Leather Seating (DB213), Black Square Weave Carpeting, and the proper grey anthracite footwell mats. European-market bubble headlights, Hella Halogen driving lamps and the optional rear mounted Autobahn Fog Light (462) are present with an original Phoenix Aktiengessellschaft Tire preserved and mounted in the boot for authenticity.

Paint refresh was completed by the Klaus Riedlinger Karosseriebau in Uhldingen-Mühlhofen in 1980; body paint has not been touched since 1980.  The SL was brought to the United States by its German owner Alois Eibner, acclaimed ESA Rosetta Spacecraft engineer and the SL has been with its present owner for over thirty years with continued refinements. It is both a Best in Class and Best in Show winner.

Accepted & participated in Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival and Concours d’Elegance (2019) and also accepted for the Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance(2020)

Car:  1929 Ford Model A Roadster Hot Rod

This traditional hot rod was built by the late California builder Dick "Magoo" Megugorac in 1974 as his personal car.  It was featured on the cover of HOTROD Magazine, November 1974.

The 1929 body sits on a 1932 frame, 3 inch dropped 1937 Ford tube axle, Halibrand quick-change differential and Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels with dirt track tires. The car features a 1932 radiator shell, Hagamann hood and 1939 Ford taillights.  The original lacquer and pinstripes still shine.  The interior has an original Auburn dash.  The leather upholstery was stitched by Lois Megugorac.

In 2016 the car was described by Thom Taylor of HOTROD Magazine as "The Best AV8 Roadster Ever."

Exibited at 2012 Hilton Head Island,  2015 Amelia Island and 2015 Winter Park Concours d' Elegance.

DETAILS:
One of the original 19 factory CSL race cars, known as "Batmobiles". 
Team car in the 1973 German Touring Car Championship.
Finished 11th Overall and  1st in Touring Class in the 1973 LeMans 24H.  Campaigned by John Buffum's Libre Racing in Trans Am in 1974.

Eventually restored by noted CSL expert Richard Conway and acquired by me in 2008.

Raced actively in US historic racing including the Daytona Classic and the 2015 LeMans Classic 24hours. We have continued to maintain the car in its as raced condition, while racing and showing it; garnering awards at the Amelia Island Concours and others.

1964 Opel Kadett Sports Coupe

Details: My 1964 Opel Kadett is one of just five known to exist in the US. It was found in rough condition in Bakersfield, CA, and came to me via trade for a 1990 Volkswagen Cabriolet. My father and I restored it together, doing all aspects of the restoration ourselves (paint included) with the exception of the upholstery. Parts sourcing is near impossible as many parts are bespoke to not only the early Kadett A, but the Coupe is far different from the Sedan. With a 54 HP 1.0L S  ("Super Compression") engine and 4 speed floor shifted manual transmission the car is no sports car. It's primary design was to challenge the VW Type 1, however it did not sell well in the United States through Buick dealers. In fact this particular car required 1964 Buick Upholstery (done by Turner Buick, Hayward, CA) to move the car off the lot. I spoke to the original owner prior to his passing (his business card was still in the glove box). The car has been presented at Greystone Mansion, Coyote Creek, Alameda, and Hillsbourough (in fact this car is used on the Classic Motorsports Website displaying Hillsborough's Participation in this event). I hope to attend more events once the Concours are allowed to continue. Thank you for your consideration.

1993 Mustang SVT Cobra

Tasked with developing a limited production high performance car for the final year of the Fox body platform, Ford's newly formed Special Vehicle Team introduced the 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra. Modifications in collaboration with Roush Engineering to the venerable 5.0 V8 included free breathing GT40 heads, a revamped cam shaft, a larger induction system, along with other inhancements to increase horsepower and torque. Larger tires mounted on unique 17 inch turbine aluminum wheels along with a more compliant suspension sytem with development input from Jackie Stewart and Bob Bondurant improved both ride and handling capabilities.Drivetrain strengthening, free flow mufflers, and four wheel disc brakes were also added. Subtle exterior body features and a unique rear spoiler added to cleaner appearance over the GT model.

This unrestored example is chassis number 1568 of a build of 4993 Cobras and is one of 191, as equipped, finished in Vibrant Red.

1957 Porsche 356A GT/GT Carrera Speedster

Acquired in 1983, its missing original 4-cam motor was found in 2003. The Porsche Museum Book “Carrera: History of the 4-cam Motor” lists this Speedster as a steel bodied GT with a GT 4-cam motor, one of only 165 356/356A Carrera Speedsters ever built. 87 had GT motors and only 31 of these were steel bodied making this car very rare.

Originally delivered in 1957 to California racer Jimmy Moore, a Hollywood Film Editor, his successful racing, during 1957 to 1959, of this Speedster is fully documented.

This is a "double barn find" given finding the original 4-cam motor and later the racing history. This Speedster story was written up in Excellence in June 2014.

The Speedster has won many prestigious awards including the Barry Rilliet Laguna Seca Award in the Carmel by the Sea Concours on Ocean Avenue in 2015 and was displayed at the 2018 Porsche Rennsport Reunion VI in the 70th Anniversary Chopard Heritage Display. It has been invited to many Concours including Amelia Island (Twice), Greenwich and Pinehurst.

This Speedster is regularly driven to many events.

This Speedster was invited to the 2020 Audrain Concours d'Elegance which of course was cancelled.

1964 Austin Cooper S

This 1964 Austin Cooper S is the last 1071cc engine Cooper S built. There were 2,135 Austins manufactured. By 1980 this car was featured in Autoweek Magazine as the cover story comparing the Cooper S to the latest hatchback, the VW Rabbit. We found this car languishing in a garage in NC and fully restored it to its original production specification, look, and feel (see Heritage certificate in photos). NOS parts were used when available and all proper weld points recreated in the exact position for any body repair. Correct and refurbished OEM hardware was retained including correct cylinder head bolt head markings. In addition, proper stenciling was used to create factory markings on the areas such as the fan belt, heater, oil cooler, sub-frames, and suspension parts (see pictures).

This is the only Austin Cooper S accepted into the Quail Lodge Car Show (2016), was First in Class at Hilton Head Concours in 2017 and First in Class in Carmel By the Sea in 2018. Go to these You Tube sites for more sights and sounds of the Austin Cooper S!

When Bernard Yurt returned home from the Korean War, he decided that what he needed was a sports car. Within months of being honorably discharged as a staff sergeant after his tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force, he purchased a shiny new 1954 Jaguar XK120 from Foreign Motors in Boston for $3,395.

 

Mr. Yurt took fastidious care of his XK120, driving it on special occasions and displaying it at regional car shows. Over his nearly 60 years of ownership Bernie preserved his XK120 in original condition and proudly used its originality as reference for other XK120 owners in Jaguar forums.

 

A devoted Jaguar enthusiast, Mr. Yurt founded the New England XK Association (N.E.X.K.A.) in 1968, later renamed the Jaguar Association of New England (J.A.N.E). The club still thrives today. (note the original N.E.X.K.A. badge on the front of the car)

 

We are only the second owners of this wonderful 1954 Jaguar XK120. It retains its original tan interior including the carpet, Dove Grey exterior paint, 3.4-liter engine, radiator, Moss gearbox and chassis. With just 56,000 original miles on the odometer, it has never been restored, damaged, modified or painted.

To support its originality we have the original bill of sale and the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate issued in Bernard’s name. This XK120 is also featured throughout the book, “Original Jaguar XK, the restorer’s guide” by Philip Porter.
