Hah, back from the dead after 4 years
Since posting this thread, I've had a turbo-diesel Peugeot, then an E28 BMW, then (now) a Saab 900 turbo.
I still pine for that LBC daily driver, but realistically it won't happen 'till after I graduate next year, (paid far less money for each of the cars above, than a 'nice' Spridget costs 'round here).
As an aside, the best deal I've seen recently was for a clean MGB with a 2L Pinto swap. Looked really well done, and was cheap 'cos the MG clique tends to favour meticulous originality.

I do warn you however. Z'Cars like most of that era can have serious cancer. With the Z the cross-over box just in front of the foot well can rust through without looking like it from the outside of the body. If it is bad enough the car may fold up like a Case knife and drop the transmission onto the ground. I've seen several!!
