Love my Bugeye WRX, but always wanted a BMW 2002. Found one but problem is it's an auto, but 98% rust free and runs good and looks good. Talk me into doing this because if I'm going to do a conversion it might just as well be a 5 speed and do Euro bumpers as well. Just turned 70 and one of these days (hopefully not soon) a project car won't be happening, so need to do them while the energy is plenty. Having lots of fun upgrading and driving the Bugeye, but solid 2002's dont pop up everyday.

Well see what happens. I'm going to make an offer, but need to make room for the conversion. Need to think about a value given it's a square taillight, large bumper, all stock car, except for 1 repaint. I could leave it is but the auto would get on my nerves pretty quick.
I would have to imagine an auto darn near ruins the car. A manual swap would probably increase the value of the 2002 as well. Do it!
I was thinking, Oh, I like yellow cars and I like Subarus, but then I saw you're in Washington. It makes the logistics a bit thorny given the pandemic.
Ultimately couldn't do it. The cost of the conversion isn't worth in my opinion plus suspension, euro bumpers, etc. I'd rather spend that money upgrading the WRX with a '15 STi 13:1 steering rack, STi added caster lower control arms, yada, yada, yada. The WRX is better in all respects except that wonderful vintage look and vintage driving experience. I'll just keep an eye open for well sorted 4 speed or 5 speed conversion and enjoy what I have for now.
