While I disagree with the logic, the sentiment is correct.
Think about what it was like in 1967. No interwebs, no chat groups. You had to get your service and your parts from the dealers. I remember people waiting months for parts from Italy or Britain, and I was on the East Coast!
Porsche had a reputation for making well built stuff. So it didn't break as much, and there were tons of VW/P dealers. (They still do, based on the latest JDP survey.) The Mustang is a no-brainer, as it is the only domestic.
All of you seem to be looking at the world through your web-colored glasses. The world has gotten much smaller since 1967.
