Has anyone used small beads placed inside the tire to balance their wheels? I have been told of these but have never met anyone who has done it. Does it really work, what kind of beads are used and is there a down side to doing this? Thanks for any info.

This is a new one for me, but it seemed like such a bizarre idea that after pondering it for a few days I had to do a bit of googling. Unfortunately, I didn't find much beyond advertising, except this post on hotrodders.com which contains the expected replies calling it complete BS, but also a handful of people who use the beads and state they work. There's also a link to a video explaining the principle of them, but admittedly I didn't watch it.
Thanks for the response Pete. Here is a link on British Car Forum, to a rather lengthy discussion about the beads. I picked a page from the middle of the conversation because it most addresses others opinions. Problem is nothing in a conclusive answer. thanks again.

I just bought a Acme Tow Dolly to haul our Fiesta ST behind our motor home and it come equipped with the plastic beads in the tires for balancing. Have not used the dolly yet but will report back when we do. I have read they are used on high end motor homes with large wheels 19, 22.5 inch etc, and large tires. The beads are sold just about everywhere at auto stores and amazon. I guess I will see if they work. I did come across this YouTube before buying my dolly because I was also skeptical of it working: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eq263AYgyYg
