I just realized something: Winter is around the corner. So, what winter plans do you guys have? Personally, I (still) need to fix the Mini's cooling system. As far as the newer cars go, the CRX needs its safety gear before its next track outing, the WRX is ready for new suspension, and the Miata could use a new top. Fortunately my wife's Civic Si is pretty happy. So, who wants to help?

Im betting you wont get many volunteers... if the rest of the folks here are like me they wont get all there projects done before spring as it is!! all i need to get done is, rebuild the engine for the trabant, completly rebuild my russian Dnepr sidecar motorcycle rig, change out the rear diff and tranny in the 73 celica, install the offy intake and fenton headers on my 58 chevy biscayne, build a hot "alpine " motor for the R5, etc...

Well, I hope to have my 70 Opel GT on the road by the end of this month. It has the infamous clogged fuel tank sock issue and fuel doesn't come out of the gas tank and replace the rollover headlight microswitch so the headlights will turn on. Next on the list is to strip a rusted out RWA Midget and clean up some parts on it for resale. The drivetrain from it is planned for the 63 Midget I have. Hope to start it this winter although I know it's going to be a long project. Plan on building a rotesserie for the 63 Midge and have it on the rotesserie before spring. After the new year, the bank manager (wife) says I can also put some $$ into my autocross car (99 Miata). Um yeah. too many projects.

Miata ('00) + Blizzaks

I keep an extra pair of docksider shoes in the car for the snow season....it's hard to get my big feet around the pedals with duck boots on.

It still has the original battery and still cranks over nicely, but I won't be surprised if it needs a replacement soon.

Start work on the GT6... but only after I complete my barn-to-shop project. So in reality, I guess my winter plans are really to complete the barn-to-shop and then start work on the GT6 next spring/summer.

Before that I need to pull the injector pump from the Landy and get that rebuilt ($$$) so I can drive it in the winter and rescue stuck flat landers. :)

On the one hand, I'll probably stuff the Spitfire into the new zipper baggie for the season.

On the other hand, I'd like to: 1. Swap in the other racing engine. The one in it now is a dog.

  1. Swap the GT6 uprights. Stock brakes just aren't impressive.

  2. Reinforce the suspension arms and frame for the big front swaybar I have in it.

  3. Install the urethane suspension bushings.

  4. Install the brake bias valve I have on the shelf.

  5. Fabricate a cold air intake duct for the carburetors.

  6. Seal and insulate the firewall and transmission tunnel.

  7. Fix the heater.

  8. Get the passenger door mirror installed.

I'll probably get as far as shoving it into the baggie.

I have a similar list for my Spit 6:

1 find and install a RH GT6 upright so they both match

2 install GT6 front brakes, s.s. hoses and new MC

3 install new clutch slave and MC

4 install Miata seats

5 fix shifter

6 fix o/d lock-out wiring (currently operates in all gears... including reverse... not good)

7 new wheels and tires

But first I need to move/sell my crusty 1800ES so I have someplace to work.

I just cleaned all the junk out of the trunk and glove box to get ready for pleasant winter drives. It is time for an oil change and the muffler is showing its age. I bought a full set of hoses to install since the old are 10 years old.

New race motor in the 63 spit, 2 years, 25+ races it's time. Maybe re ring it and put in the 72 street spit? The race car also will be getting new front calipers, a new close ratio gear box and rebuilt 4:11 welded diff.

The 72 street spit will get prepped for painting in the spring, a radio installed and maybe the old race car engine. The Diff needs new seals, I'll probably do a rebuild on that too while it's out and be done with it.

I'll start going over the 71 spit that I picked up a few months ago and someone on Craigslist has a pair of GT6's that aren't too far away, one to restore and one for parts.

Can you say Spit6?

My winter plans are nowhere as involved as y'alls. One more auto-x, maybe, then the floormats, dashcovers, etc go back into the car. Wash and wax, detail the vechicles and enjoy the holidays. I use winter to get caught up on my car books, mainly "road trip" and racing type reading.

Winter in San Antonio is spanish for "not hot." I plan on adding turbo and intercooler to my megasquirted daily driver 81 X1/9.

My plans include removing the motor and trans. in my '57 vintage racer. Upgrades include carbs., head work, maybe cam, trans. and misc. weight saving adjustments. My real worry is whether I need to change tires on the '07 BMW X5 4.8. I upgraded to the Bridgestone run-flat tires and have not ran them in the snow yet. With full snowboarding season planned I have my doubts about their ability. Does anyone have experience with these?
